NCCC Oak 3 Making a Difference in Traverse City

Charters Traverse City State Park with the Michigan Department of Natural Resources in Traverse City, Michigan. The staff has been very welcoming and friendly, ensuring the NCCC team is able to experience a variety of projects. The team is beautifying the park by picking up garbage, widening trails and transplanting flora along the trail.

Schminkes to Celebrate Golden Wedding Anniversary!

Oliver and Inge Schminke Dad went up to Canada to catch some fish, and caught mom instead!  He reeled her in and they have been together ever since!!   Please help Oliver and Inge celebrate 50 years together by showering them with cards on July 19, 2014.                &nbs

Three Confirmed into membership at the Presbyterian Church

On Sunday, June 15, 2014, The Presbyterian Church of Vinton celebrated the confirmation of three new members into our church. Pastor Jessica Crane-Munoz confirmed into membership Tyler Clark and Alyssa Clark, (son and daughter of Mike and Lisa Clark) and Tiara Burke, daughter of Tom and Mindy Burke.   The confirmand's teacher, Edwon Yedlik, spoke of the year- long education the youth completed.

Iowa State University College of Human Sciences area scholarship winners

The Iowa State University College of Human Sciences and its academic departments offered over $800,000 in scholarships to students for the 2014-2015 academic year. From Urbana, Carlie Rhinehart, Senior, Nutritional Science, Center Point-Urbana, Doris A. Adams Scholarship - Food Science and Human Nutrition.

NCCC Team Leaders step up to help Camp Hitaga

Due to numerous teams being pulled for disaster assistance, STLs stepped up and took on this project which was originally intended for Oak 7. The STLs are a distinct group on campus and each one has a different role.

AmeriCorps NCCC Class 20 Corps Member Spotlight: Travis Hanes

He arrived in Vinton on February 11 to start his 10-month service working with a team of people between the ages of 18 and 24. Cedar 6 is made up of seven people from across the country and they will serve together around the Midwest.

Maple 3 is made up of nine people from across the country and they will serve together around the Midwest.

Iowa State Fair Offers Entertainment and Activities Just for Kids

The Iowa State Fair has a wide variety of free, family-friendly fun coming to the 2014 Fair. Kids' activities and entertainment, all free with admission, can be found everywhere from the Kids' Zone to the Fun Forest Stage. "Nothing Compares" to the Iowa State Fair, set August 7-17. The Kids' Zone – a special area packed with games and entertainment – is planned with young Fairgoers in mind.

Keanu Harris, from Arvada, Colorado is the team leader for Maple 3 in AmeriCorps NCCC Class 20. He arrived in Vinton on January 9 to start his 11-month service working with a team of people between the ages of 18 and 24. Maple 3 is made up of nine people from across the country and they will serve together around the Midwest. When asked why he decided to serve in the NCCC program, Keanu says, “I've spent years bettering myself in school, from high school through college, and I felt it was time to start bettering my community through service.
